Clients include:What is Graphic Recording?
Graphic recording, aka visual scribing or sketch-noting, is the art of taking notes and illustrating conversations live, as they happen.
It can be done in the following ways:
-
Drawn with marker on a large foam board on two easels.
REQUIRED: Space for setup, chair, table
PROS: Impressive presence, invites greater audience engagement, turns bland spaces into galleries
CONS: Large footprint, less flexible real-time editing, board delivery requires prior logistical planning
-
Drawn with Procreate on an iPad. Projected onto a screen via HDMI cable or shared post-event via email.
REQUIREMENTS: Chair, table, power extension, HDMI cord
PROS: Quick setup, easy editing, clean/modern look, flexible sharing options
CONS: Less physical presence than analog, needs HDMI connection
-
Drawn with Procreate on an iPad. Projected into Zoom/Teams, etc. via screen-share.
REQUIREMENTS: Virtual meeting link, screen-sharing permission
PROS: Can be viewed by remote attendees, flexible editing, easy setup
CONS: Needs a reliable, clear audio feed, less presence than onsite options
-
Need custom illustrations for your website or printed matter? I can create bespoke visuals for you or refine images previously created in a graphic recording. Animation of these elements is also available.

How It Works
1. Pre-Event Planning
You’ve reached out to me about an event you hope to incorporate graphic recording in; what next?
-
Nice to meet you! We share more information about ourselves and get to know each other better as people.
-
Tell me more about the event you’re organizing! What is the purpose of the event? Who will be attending? What does success look like should you choose to graphically record it?
-
We walk through your agenda, event by event, and determine how to visually capture each section or, in some cases, multiple sections in one.
We end this section by aligning on the number and content of captures for your event.
-
What colors should we use for our capture? Any specific branding guidelines I should follow or know about? Any terms or imagery that should be avoided or 100% included?
-
We discuss hotel and transportation details, arrival and wrap-up times, and board/easel delivery. These details can be arranged either on-call or via email.
2. Project Brief
As your event draws near, I send over a final project brief with the following information:
-
My phone number + email
My point of contact’s number + email
My delivery contact’s number + email (analog only)
-
Event address
Travel itinerary
Hotel address
Check-in + check-out times
-
List of the sessions I will be capturing
Where each capture takes place
Client goals for each capture
Final board count
-
Key themes to draw inspiration from
Links to additional materials that may assist with the scribe
Any notable client asks
3. Event Day(s)
Time to shine! Here are the steps I will take to ensure that my graphic recording slots in seamlessly with your event.
-
I arrive at the agreed-upon time and find my point of contact
If boards/easels are not immediately apparent, I enlist the help of the delivery contact to find them and bring them to the appropriate spot
I set up easels (2 per board) where I will be scribing
If digital, I meet up with the AV team to ensure my iPad can connect via HDMI cord
-
If analog, I set up the easels (2 per board) where I will be scribing
Each board is titled
Branding stickers are affixed to bottom corners
If digital, I meet up with the AV team to ensure my iPad can connect via HDMI cord
Digital boards have been pre-titled and are ready to go once connection is established
-
And we’re off to the races! Based on the project brief and notes taken during our conversations, I complete each capture as they come up.
Completed physical boards can be whisked away to a larger space to form a gallery walk or left where they are.
Completed digital boards can be incorporated into a PP deck or saved for future sharing.
-
What a Day!
I take photos of each physical board and pack the easels into their original bags. These will later be edited into clean digital versions via Photoshop and shared back with the client.
I bid farewell to my point-of-contact, review how the day went, and head out!
4. Post-Event Reflection
Post-event, I send over a feedback form for you to fill out. This form will include any suggestions or feedback you have for me, as well as any positive remarks you may have for my work.
